Jim was a truly gifted musician. He never learned to read music, but he could play any stringed instrument he picked up, no matter how different the chords were. He also played the piano, but he always preferred his fiddle and guitar.

Music was a way of life in the Davis family. Five out of eleven children either played an instrument, sang, or did both. Jim Davis won numerous fiddling contests in West Virginia and Southwestern PA.
